P-Slam: A Poetic Journey Through the Psalms - History

January 17 & 18 - History: Psalms encourage us to remember

Core Scripture: Psalm 105:1-45

Memory Verse:
Psalm 105:2 (NIV) "Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts."

Discussion Questions:
  • What was the purpose of this Psalm? How do we see this purpose in the first seven verses?
  • Why is it important for us to remember? How does ignoring history doom us to repeat it? What are some of the ways we can remember the history in our own lives?
  • How does remembering lead us to thank God? How does remembering lead us to praise God?
  • How does remembering lead us to follow God? How can we do each of these things in our personal spiritual lives?
Bottom Line:
  • The act of remembering our history leads us to remember who God is and how good He is. Psalms encourage us to remember and this Psalm shows us how important this process is.
  • If Psalms encourage us to remember, then how can we remember God? First, we should give thanks to God. We can also sing praise to God and glory in His name.
  • As we remember how good God is and all that He has done, we will naturally be led to trust Him, and we will seek to emulate God's character and become representations of Him in the world.
  • When we remember what God has done, we recognize who He is. And when we recognize who He is, we are inspired to follow Him.
