Read: Acts 6:8-15
Choose truth regardless of circumstance
Ask students to identify as many different kinds of traps as they can. (Some examples could be a bear trap, a sand trap on a golf course, a Venus flytrap plant, a trap door, etc.) With each example, get the students to talk about the emotions you feel when you’re in this trap. Use the pictures and emotions that your students come up with to make today’s lesson feel more real as you move into this week’s questions.
Questions
1. How did Stephen live in truth? How did this affect him? How did this affect the people around him?
2. Why did the religious leaders want to trap Stephen? How did they do this? How did they use Stephen’s commitment to the truth to do this?
3. What other Bible characters were trapped by truth? How do these stories show us that truth can get you trapped?
4. What are our options when circumstances get tough? Which of these options are good? Which are not?
5. What does it look like for us to choose truth regardless of circumstance even when we’re trapped? What are some ways we can do this? How are you having to do this right now? How can this group help you choose stance?
