PURITY: Boundaries - April 5th & 6th

Core Scriptures:
Mark 12:29-30 (AMP) “Jesus answered, The first and principal one of all commands is: Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord; And you shall love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soul (your life) and out of and with all your mind (with your faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all your strength. This is the first and principal commandment.”

Memory Verse:
Mark 12:30 (NKJ) “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment.

Opener:
Is there a food that you cannot live without? Onion rings? Cocoa Puffs? Red Bull? If they discovered it was bad for you – you’d still scarf it down. If they made it illegal, you’d look for a black-market supply.
I hate to break it to you, but you can live without that particular food. You’re just attached to it. Come to think of it, it’s something like a dating relationship. And that’s what today is totally about.

Discussion Questions: (For the Gals)
  1. In the DVD we met Nicole, she was in love with this guy and she was afraid he would break up with her if she didn’t have sex with him. Do you think this is a common fear? Do other girls feel that way?
  2. Why doesn’t she just say, “Here are my standards, buddy boy. You’d better stop pressuring me or I’ll break up with you.”
  3. Nicole talked about her boyfriend being in control of the relationship, how do you think it got that way?
  4. Nicole’s friends were warning her about this guy. Why didn’t she listen to them? Would things have turned out differently if she had listened to her friends?
  5. Nicole said this: “Part of me was convinced we were supposed to get married”. Do you think this is why she gave in?
  6. The speaker suggested that feelings of guilt can be a good thing. What did she mean? Do you agree? Is guilt good or bad?
  7. Read the core scripture. How should we love the Lord? What does that mean to you?
  8. What does this verse mean to you in regards to the relationships in your life? Can you do whatever you want as long as your heart is in the right place?
  9. If you really tried to do this, how would it change the relationships in your life? (Remember the equals sign!)

Discussion Questions: (For the Guys)

  1. In the DVD, Jared mentioned the negative influence of his father and cousins. Do you think guys cheer each other on when it comes to sexual misbehavior?
  2. How do you deal with it when it happens to you? How can Christian guys challenge the idea that you have to sleep around to be a “real man”?
  3. How can guys help each other withstand these pressures? As guys how can you support each other on these issues?
  4. The speaker suggested that feelings of guilt can be a good thing. What did she mean? Do you agree? Is guilt good or bad?
  5. Read the core scripture. How should be love the Lord? What does that mean to you?
  6. What does this verse mean to you in regards to your relationships? Can you do whatever you want as long as your heart is in the right place?
  7. If you really tried to do this, how would it change the relationships in your life? (Remember the equals sign!)

Make sure you watch the video (in the post from earlier this week) to see what the actual teaching is going to be.
