February 23 & 24 - Give Him What's in Your Wallet

Give Him What’s in your Wallet (Giving & Tithing)

Core Scripture:
Psalm 50: 10-12 (NIV) “For every animal of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and all that is in it.”

Malachi 3:10 (NIV) “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

11 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV) “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Memory Verse:

Proverbs 3:9 (NIV) “Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the first-fruits of all your increase;”

Discussion Questions:

  • Do you think there is value to involving God in your finances? Why or why not?
  • Describe a situation when you put God first with your money and He came through for you as a result.
  • What do you believe is the main reason God would bless a person financially?
  • Do you think it’s possible to help others in need without the love of God being in you? Why or why not?
  • What about the opposite? Can you have the love of God in you and not help people in need? How does that work?

Bottom Line:

God isn’t just the creator of the universe; He’s the owner of everything in it. Including the money you call your own. When He created us, He immediately gave us a management position – the job of managing the earth and everything in it. Our money has an extremely important phrase on it: In God We Trust. If we really do trust Him, we would be obedient to His word which says to tithe first and also give. When we choose to put Him first by paying the tithe and giving to the Gospel we create an opportunity for Him to be involved in our finances and to bless them. God is a generous God and if are truly created in His image we should be the same. We should be willing to give above the tithe to help spread the Gospel and to help those in need.
