February 16 & 17 - What Do I Do with What’s in my Wallet? (Budgeting)

Core Scripture:
Hebrews 13:5 (NIV) “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Matthew 6:31-33 (NIV) “So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Memory Verse:
James 1:5 (NIV) “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

Discussion Questions:

  • If you had a $100 how much would you spend on food, clothes, entertainment (movies, DVD’s, music, video games), or things for yourself like make-up and sports?
  • How much money do you spend on yourself vs. others?
  • If someone were to describe you would they say you are generous or stingy? Would they say you are responsible or irresponsible with your money? Are you ok with that? How do you want to be seen by others?
  • Describe your main priorities in life. Is that reflected in how you spend your money? Why or why not?

Bottom Line:

Every one of us are “Money Managers for God”. He has entrusted us with every dollar that flows through our lives; let’s prove to Him that He made a good decision! He has got millions of dollars in small and big stacks all along the path of our lives. We owe it to Him to learn how to manage the small stacks we encounter now, so He can trust us with the bigger stacks to come. The bottom line is that there are 4 basic ways we handle money: Get, Give, Invest, and Spend. If we allow God to dictate the decisions we make with money – we can be guaranteed He will be able to trust with more than we can imagine.
