Who is the Holy Spirit??

Core Scripture:
Acts 2:1-4 (Amp.) “And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place, when suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them. And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].

Memory Verse:
I John 4:4(NKJ)“You are of God little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Discussion Questions:

  • When you think of the Holy Spirit, what do you think of? What are some of the things you’ve heard about the Holy Spirit from other people?
  • Do you think that there are a lot of misconceptions about who the Holy Spirit really is? What do you think some of them are?
  • Explain who the Holy Spirit is to you.
  • Read John 14:26 (AMP) “But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.” What are the 7 things listed the Holy Spirit will do for you? How do these “jobs” manifest in your daily life?

Bottom Line:
The Holy Spirit is not a thing, the Holy Spirit is a He – the 3rd part of the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). The Father sent the Holy Spirit to the earth when Jesus ascended back up to heaven. Jesus said it was better that He go so that the Father could send the Holy Spirit. Why? Because the Holy Spirit dwells on the inside of us. He has 7 specific jobs, He is our: Comforter, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Stand-by, and Counselor. The Bible refers to Him as the Spirit of Truth who will guide us and reveal things to come. When we pray in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues, we strengthen our spirit-man. When we are spiritually strong we can withstand the attacks of the satan and we will have the ability to follow God’s plan for our lives.
